2416 - SURVEYS, ANALYSIS, EVALUATIONS

The Board respects the privacy rights of parents and their children.  No student shall be required, without prior written consent of the student if an adult, or of his/her parents if a minor, to participate in any survey, analysis, or evaluation not related to academic instruction in which the primary purpose is to reveal information concerning:

A. the student’s or parent’s political affiliations(s);

B. mental or physical problems potentially embarrassing to the student or his/her family;

C. religious beliefs or practices;

D. sex behavior or attitudes;

E. illegal, anti-social, self-incriminating, or demeaning behavior;

F. critical appraisals of other individuals with whom respondents have close, family relationships;

G. legally-recognized privileged and analogous relationships, such as those with lawyers, physicians, and ministers;

H. income other than that required by law to determine eligibility for participation in a program or for receiving financial assistance under such a program.

Parents will have the right to inspect any materials that are to be used as part of a survey, personal analysis, or evaluation of a student that is not a direct part of a regular course study.

The Superintendent shall ensure that procedures are established whereby parents may inspect any materials used in conjunction with any such survey, analysis, or evaluation.
