Posted on Mar. 20 2019 by Patricia Gibson, Communications Director
News Blog Category - News Do you know a Marion High School alumnus who deserves recognition? Nominations for the MHS Hall of Distinction 2019 inductions are being accepted through Friday, April 5.

The Hall seeks to honor men and women who have distinguished themselves through superb accomplishment on a local, state or national level in diverse fields of endeavor. It gives lasting recognition to alumni who have made exceptional contributions to the achievements and prestige of Marion Community Schools. It also serves to help inspire current students to aspire to similar success.

Any MHS alumnus who graduated at least five years ago and who has made substantial contributions to the achievements of Marion Community Schools or whose exemplary actions reflect honor on MCS is eligible for nomination. Non-MHS graduates may be afforded honorary status in the MHS Hall of Distinction.

Nominations must be made in writing and must be received by Patty Barney in the Office of the Superintendent, District Offices at Marion High School, 750 W. 26th St., Marion, or by email to pbarney@marion.k12.in.us, by April 5.

Nomination forms and more detailed information is available here.

Inductees will be honored during MHS Homecoming weekend. The formal induction dinner is set for Saturday, Sept. 14. More details will be provided as the event nears.

For more information, contact Patty Barney, Marion Community Schools, 662-2546, ext. 125, or email pbarney@marion.k12.in.us.

Marion Community Schools’ human resources director was recently honored by the Indiana Association of School Business Officials.

Human Resources Director Shelley Preston has been named the IASBO School Support Professional of the Year for Region 5, the district in which Grant County lies.

This May will be IASBOs 18th year presenting their annual award. Each year, IASBO recognizes school business official in each of its 10 regions with awards for Treasurer of the Year, School Business Official of the Year, and School Support Professional of the Year. Shelley Preston was the only representative from Grant County awarded for 2019.

We are proud of this recognition of Marion Community Schools and of Shelley Preston, who brings a wealth of experience to her role at MCS since she joined us six years ago. She has been an asset to our Giant team and we are grateful to Shelley for her service here.

Shelley Preston and the other IASBO honorees will be celebrated at the organization’s annual meeting in May.
