A Marion Community Schools bus was involved in a two-vehicle crash late Wednesday afternoon on Lagro Road, when an oncoming car struck it near a blind curve in the road.

There were no significant injuries, but paramedics provided precautionary exams on scene for the 10 students and 2 staff involved (the driver and an aide), as well as the car’s driver.

The bus, No. 34, was carrying students from Justice Intermediate School, McCulloch Junior High School, and Marion High School.

The Transportation Department or school staffers reached out to all families of students involved. Emergency personnel, including the Grant County Sheriff’s Department, oversaw reunification and release of all students at the scene within about an hour of the crash, which happened at approximately 4:35 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1.

The bus involved will not be returned to service until any necessary repairs are made and it is inspected and cleared by Indiana State Police, which is the typical and required process in such incidents.

Marion Community Schools is grateful to all emergency personnel who assisted at the scene, and for the presence of mind, care, and professionalism displayed by the bus driver and other staff. We are beyond thankful that the crash resulted in no serious injuries.
