Elementary info for weather closings / virtual learning / e-learning

Be sure to check our website for closing and delay information! We always announce early when we can, but sometimes announcements come the morning of. Announcements are also available on our Facebook pages, along with local and state media.

The information below is for elementary buildings only. Grades 5-12 should check in with their teachers on any day when virtual learning is being used. (Grades 5-12 take home their iPads regularly, but not all elementary students do, so we are providing info below for families with elementary students.)


Weather closing days with iPad

Marion Community Schools elementary buildings will send school iPads home with students in preparation for inclement weather when possible. If school buildings are closed (M-Th) for weather or any other reason, there will be no onsite classes, but students will participate in virtual learning with their teacher.

For ALL online and onsite students, the schedule for virtual learning days will begin at 9 a.m., unless otherwise communicated by your child’s teacher. Your student will participate in multiple live meetings throughout the day through Google Meet (in Google Classroom). Please look for the communication from your child’s teacher with their specific schedule.

Students need to be logged in and complete work to be counted as present for these days. If you have any questions or technical issues, please reach out to your child’s teacher (emails can be found here) or your school office (phone numbers can be found here) so we can help you. Delays that become full virtual learning days

In the case of a 2-hour delay becomes a full virtual learning day, the schedule for elementary students will remain the same, starting virtually at 9 a.m.

Weather closing days without iPad


If iPads have NOT been sent home with elementary students, e-learning will be sent out directly from your child’s teacher. Please watch for emails or other communications from your teacher.

Friday e-learning days

Regularly scheduled Friday e-learning will be as normal, with all independent work (unless otherwise scheduled by your teacher).
