Hostess House invites area kids to deck the halls this holiday season

Publish Date: 11/11/2022

Here's a special opportunity open to all Marion Community Schools students (and other local kids)!

Information provided by the Hostess House:

The Hostess House is offering a new opportunity this year to help boost holiday spirits in Christmas City, USA: a tree and wreath decorating contest for kids 16 and younger.

The decorations will be voted on during the historic mansion's holiday open house, set for 2 to 6 p.m. Nov. 19 (in conjunction with the 3rd Annual Miracle on 3rd & 4th Street holiday event in downtown Marion). All attendees at the open house can vote for their favorite tree or wreath, $1 a vote. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward the upkeep of the Hostess House.

Winning decorations will be displayed at the Hostess House and at Marion Community School of the Arts throughout the holiday season.

Submissions must be 3 feet tall or less, and can be any tree- or wreath-shaped item. Get creative! Decorations must be family-friendly, and should be secured well to your tree or wreath, because they need to be movable. Decorations can include lights, as there will be outlets available.

You can deliver your submissions between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, or on Saturday, Nov. 19 starting at noon. Voting will begin at 2 p.m., and awards will be given at 6 p.m.

The Hostess House Holiday Open House will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Nov. 19. Come enjoy the holiday decor. The mansion will be a stop on the trolly route from downtown. We will have free punch and cookies, holiday shopping at Peggy's Boutique, carolers from the Grant County Lyric Club, and pictures with Santa from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

The annual Christmas City USA parade starts at 7 p.m. and ends with the lighting of the tree on the Courthouse Square at 8 p.m. and the opening of the Walkway of Lights for the season.
