A message from Principal Rumple: Looking forward to a great year!

Publish Date: 07/19/2022

Dear Justice family,

We hope you have had a restful and rejuvenating summer and that like us you are eager to  start the 2022-23 school year. The start of a new school year is always an exciting fresh start and new beginning. We have some changes this year we wanted to let you know about. We are excited to implement these changes, and we believe it will help our students prepare for future grades and experiences and help with their current social, emotional, and educational needs. These changes to our daily operations are more in line with an intermediate school schedule:

  • Students will have only two core teachers and a special teacher each day.
  • Teachers are grouped in pairs. One teacher will be the Reading and Writing teacher. The other teacher will be the Math and Social Studies (5th grade) or Math and Science (6th grade) teacher.
  • Students will attend one special a day, and will switch to a different special second semester. Fifth grade specials are PLTW (Project Lead the Way) and General Music. Sixth grade specials are PLTW and Art (with students having the option to take Band and/or Choir as well).
  • Students will have PE class one day a week for the duration of the school year.

This restructured schedule will allow staff to escort students during transitions between classes (eliminating passing periods) and will keep students with the same classmates for the day while introducing the idea of switching classes.

Our Justice teachers and staff are dedicated to making this a great school year. We welcome you to attend our Back to School Family Night from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 4. This is an opportunity for you and your student to meet our teachers, and for you to complete your registration if you have not done so. You will also get important information about Title 1 services for all students and more, pick up your car tags if needed, pay your technology fee ($20) so you can pick up your student’s iPad, and pay your book fee or apply for assistance.

If you would like to simplify your experience at our Back to School Night, you can complete the following ahead of time through your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account:

  • If you haven’t already done so, complete your student’s registration for the 2022-23 school year (instructions can be found in the Enrollment section of marion.k12.in.us)
  • Apply online for textbook fee assistance (in your Parent Portal, select “More” from the list on the left, then select “Meals” to access the application)

We are also pleased to inform you that breakfast and lunch will continue to be free for all Marion Community Schools students this year. You don’t need to sign up for this option.

The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 10. Classes at Justice start at 8:50 a.m. Students can be dropped off starting at 8:35 a.m. In addition, please note that we will NOT be having a late start on Fridays this year! Classes will start the same time every day, at 8:50 a.m.

All students will get out early the first three days (Aug. 10, 11, 12). Dismissal on those days will be at 2:40 p.m. After that, Justice students will be dismissed at 3:40 p.m.

Please do not hesitate to contact the office if you have any questions or concerns regarding the upcoming school year. Parental involvement in a child’s education is crucial to their achievement, attitude, self-esteem, maturity, and responsibility. I urge you to take part as much as possible in the life of our school and to partner with us as we work together to educate and prepare our young Giants to go out and make a GIANT impact.
