We know it's not yet Thanksgiving, and some people consider the mention of the Christmas holiday this time of year just too early!

But we also know that families often need to shuffle schedules to come to school holiday programs. So to give you time to make plans, we wanted to let you know our holiday program schedule now:

Our outstanding band will perform at 9:15 a.m. for our Community Day on Wednesday, Dec. 16. Mark your calendar, because we hope to see you there!

Reminder: The state of Indiana requires immunizations for sixth-graders. A date will be set soon and your student WILL NOT be able to continue to attend school if they do not have these required immunizations (or an appointment set to get them)!

Students can earn respect cards from any adult in the building - as well as their bus driver!!!

Our teachers provide opportunities every day for our students to explore and engage, but on Sept. 11, lessons sometimes get a little more emotional, a little more real.

The Chronicle-Tribune spent some time with Justice social studies teacher Mary Pat Fuller recently to talk about the challenge of teaching about the startling facts of that day in 2001 — which are still so fresh in the minds of many adults — to students who weren't even born at the time.

Here's an excerpt from their report:

Justice Intermediate School's band program has grown so fast that we don't have enough instruments for our students!

Our band has more than quadrupled in size in just a few short years, to more than 150 young musicians. But at this point, because of a shortage of instruments available, we have students sharing instruments during the day, which means they can't take them home to practice. And as anyone who has learned a skill knows, consistent practice is the key!

Scholastic Reading Inventory is coming up next week at Justice.  It is the time for your child to show what they know when it comes to reading!!! :)

If your child is a 5th grade student - we would like to see a range of 700 - 900

If your child is a 6th grade student - we would like to see a range of 900 - 1000

OUR GOAL IS THAT FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR TO THE END THAT WE SHOW 120 POINTS IN GROWTH!!!

Please read with your student every night!  It can be from a magazine - newspaper - book - cereal box!!!!
