Five McCulloch Junior High School singers and three Justice Intermediate School singers have been selected to perform in prestigious all-state honor ensembles at the Indiana Music Educators Association’s upcoming annual conference.
Seen above from left, McCulloch Junior High School students Aliya Cruz, eighth grade, Macey Wayman, seventh grade, Hannah Huff, seventh grade, and Xavier Lavert and Micah Hawkins, both eighth grade, were selected to participate in the IMEA All State Middle School Honor Choir.
Seen above from left, Justice Intermediate School students Linlee Greenwood and Addison Hickman, both in sixth grade, and Cecilia Hancock, fifth grade, were selected to participate in the IMEA All State Elementary Honor Choir.
These honor ensembles are a great opportunity and give students a chance to learn and grow as musicians. To be selected for these honors, students are nominated by their choir director, and nominations are then evaluated based on several criteria to select members of these talented groups from across the state. Selected musicians have been notified and were tasked with practicing the musical selections in preparation for the upcoming performances.
On Thursday, Jan. 12, honor ensemble members from around the state will gather to rehearse together for the first time, with a guest clinician. Then, on Jan. 13, they will perform together in Fort Wayne during the IMEA’s annual conference.
In addition, two Marion High School band students were selected to perform in the IMEA Honor Concert Band: Sabrina Thomas and Daniel Terhune, both juniors.
Marion’s outstanding representation during this music-filled weekend is a testament to the hard work and dedication our students display every day in the classroom, and to the excellence, skill, and professionalism that our music educators bring to their work all year round.
We are proud of all of these Marion Giants!
