Marion Community Schools is proud to announce that choir students from three of our schools have earned spots in the Indiana Music Education Association’s All-State Honor Choirs.
The McCulloch Junior High School students selected were Nathaniel Aguila, Caleb Huff, Emily Luckey, Chloe Phillips, and Caroline Russell; from Justice Intermediate School, Aubry Roedl was selected; and from Riverview Elementary School, Joseph Hancock and Hannah Huff were selected.
This group is the largest ever selected for this honor from Marion. Marion Community Schools congratulates these talented and dedicated students on this outstanding achievement!
This is the third year in a row for this honor for Caleb. He and Nathaniel, Emily, Chloe, and Caroline join a tradition of excellence at McCulloch, as this is the sixth year in a row that choir students from the school have been selected to the IMEA All-State Honor Choir. Aubry also extends a tradition of excellence at Justice, which is sending students for the third year in a row. Special congratulations are also due to Joseph and Hannah, who are the first Marion fourth-graders to be selected, and to their music teacher at Riverview, Erika Pappas, who auditioned students for this Honor Choir for the first time!
Students submit a recorded audition in the fall, which is then evaluated by three judges and compared against hundreds of other students from across the state. This is an elite group, as each of the honor choirs includes only about 150 singers, some of the best in the state.
The choirs will gather together for two days of rehearsal on Jan. 16 and 17, and then will be featured as guest performers at the IMEA professional development conference. The will perform on Jan. 17 at the Grand Wayne Embassy Theater in Fort Wayne.
The All-State Honor Choir is a great opportunity for these talented students, and will give them the chance to learn and grow as musicians. We are so proud of all of these students, and their teachers, Christina Huff at Justice/McCulloch, and Erika Pappas at Riverview!
