Publish Date: 04/27/2020

NOTE: We have now opened enrollment for STEM and IVY111 opportunities in July! (If you have already signed up for July Summer STEM, no need to do so again.)

Current 8th- through 12th-graders at Marion Community Schools are invited to sign up for FREE summer opportunities! Watch the video below, and scroll down for more details.

These programs are part of the Credits Count program, a partnership between Marion High School and Ivy Tech Community College made possible by the American Electric Foundation.

IVYT111: Student Success

This is dual credit course, meaning you can earn credit at Marion High School AND Ivy Tech Community College. (This course is required for all students at Ivy Tech, so you'll be ahead of the game before you leave high school!)

This course is free for current 8th- through 12th-graders at Marion Community Schools.

You will explore career options, boost your study skills, and make plans for your academic future. You will also become familiar with how college courses are delivered online, as you take this online course. This experience will provide you with skills and strategies necessary to complete a degree or certificate program after high school.

This course will require approximately four hours per week to complete. It will run from June 8 through July 3. Because of demand, we have opened a second session, to run from July 6 through 31! Registration is open through June 18.

Knowledge Assessment Tests for dual credit courses

MHS offers dual credit courses in Spanish, social studies, math, and science through Ivy Tech Community College. To be eligible for these courses in the 2020-21 school year, you must pass corresponding knowledge assessments.

  • To be eligible to earn Ivy Tech dual credit in Spanish or social studies, you must pass the English Knowledge Assessment.
  • To be eligible to earn Ivy Tech dual credit in math or science, you must pass both the English Knowledge Assessment and the Math Knowledge Assessment.

Both of these assessments will be available this summer to Marion High School students.

If you take the test and earn a qualifying score, you will be eligible for Ivy Tech dual credit courses through Marion High School in the upcoming school year.

If you do not earn a qualifying score, you can participate in an online remediation course this summer. By completing this course, you will have fulfilled the requirement for the knowledge assessments in math and English, and be ready to take Ivy Tech dual credit courses at Marion High School in the upcoming school year.
