Last week, Marion High School’s Academic Giants Interdisciplinary Super Bowl Team earned one of the top five scores in the state in regional competition, propelling them on to the state competition. 

The Giants competed with 58 other schools at regional competitions around the state on Tuesday for the right to advance to the state competition. The top five teams in each subject advance.

The Marion High School JROTC Raider Team came to the Motor City with something to prove: that they are still the best Raider Team around. And the Giants demonstrated this by decisively defeating all the other teams who gathered for the Urban Raider Challenge hosted by Detroit Public Schools last Saturday.

The NRA Foundation has awarded the Marion High School JROTC Rifle Marksmanship Team a grant totaling $4,598 to fund new equipment purchases.

"We are very excited that the NRA Foundation is making an investment in our community through their support of our youth marksmanship program," said retired Lt. Col. David Farlow, Senior Army Instructor for MHS JROTC. “Every year we teach nearly 100 cadets how to properly handle and safely operate an air rifle. Then they learn the joy that competitive marksmanship can bring.”

The Marion High School Student Senate's annual Senior Citizens Prom is coming up in May.

The 30th annual event will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Marion High School, 750 W. 26th St. Entrance will be on the northeast side, Doors 7 and 8. This fun event includes snacks, music / dancing, bingo with prizes, crowning of a king and queen, and is free to all senior citizens in Marion.

In years past this event has drawn a crowd, and we hope to see that spirit return this year!

Do you know a Marion High School alumnus who deserves recognition? Nominations for the MHS Hall of Distinction 2019 inductions are being accepted through Friday, April 5.

The Hall seeks to honor men and women who have distinguished themselves through superb accomplishment on a local, state or national level in diverse fields of endeavor. It gives lasting recognition to alumni who have made exceptional contributions to the achievements and prestige of Marion Community Schools. It also serves to help inspire current students to aspire to similar success.

Marion High School’s vocal and instrumental jazz ensembles earned high marks in state competition earlier this month.

For the first time, MHS band program had two jazz ensembles competing in the Indiana State School Music Jazz Competition, which took place March 1 at Kokomo High School.

The Marion High School JROTC Rifle Marksmanship Team demonstrated they are clearly the best Precision Division team within the five states comprising the U.S. Army Cadet Command’s 7th Brigade. Not only did the team win the 7th Brigade Marksmanship Championship, but the Giants also produced the first, second, fifth, and sixth best shooters.

Marion High School JROTC cadets Audrey Dickerson and Hailey Teeguarden both were awarded the U.S. Army’s ROTC scholarships. These national level scholarships are each valued at just under $100,000.
