Marion Giants Sectional Champion T-shirts and hoodies go on sale at 1:30 p.m. today (March 10) at the Marion High School Athletic Office. The office will be open until 3 p.m. today, and sales will continue from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, while supplies last.

Marion High School senior Alissia Jones won first place recently at the Indiana Regional Braille Challenge!

The Braille Challenge is the only academic competition of its kind in North America for students who are blind or visually impaired. Braille Institute developed the Braille Challenge to motivate students to practice and hone their braille literacy skills, which are essential to academic and employment success. Contestants are tested on fundamental braille skills such as reading comprehension, spelling, speed and accuracy, proofreading, and charts and graphs.

Several Marion High School musicians and two McCulloch Junior High School students earned top awards at the state finals of ISSMA Solo & Ensemble recently. 

The two MJH students, eighth-graders Nathaniel Aguila and Caroline Russell, were the first students from the school to compete at the Division I level, which made them eligible for the state competition. They both earned gold at the regional level, which qualified them for state, where they both earned gold, and Nathaniel earned added distinction (given to students who score within 1.5 points or less of a perfect score)!

The Marion High School Marching Giants are moving to the summer marching band competition circuit for the 2020 season.

With this change, the Marching Giants will compete in about the same number of contests, but over a shorter time period that begins earlier than the fall marching season. This will give more flexibility for students who wish to participate in other fall activities, including athletics.

The Marion High School chapter of Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica induct three dozen new members and honor its graduating seniors at a special ceremony next week.

Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is a national honor society that helps recognize students who have a high achievement in the Spanish language, and helps encourage them to continue their interest in it. Students who have finished three years of Spanish and have maintained a 3.5 GPA can be invited to join.

Marion Community Schools invites you to come out and enjoy the talents of our young musicians next week!

There are two concerts planned at the Walton Performing Arts Center at Marion High School, 750 W. 26th St., Marion. Both shows are free and open to the public. 

On Monday, March 9, at 6 p.m., there will be a band concert featuring bands and ensembles from Marion High School, McCulloch Junior High School, and Justice Intermediate School.

The Marion High School JROTC Drill Team ended their season Saturday with several of major accomplishments, including a top finish in the armed squad regulation drill event at one of the most competitive contests they entered all year.

In the regional competition hosted by Concordia Lutheran High School, with the support of the ROTC Program at Purdue Fort Wayne, this year’s event featured 16 JROTC units made up of more than 700 cadets from Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, and Michigan. Some of the teams present are the best from across the nation.

The state has issued a plan for resumption of some non-essential activities

On May 1, Gov. Eric Holcomb announced a 5-stage plan for non-essential businesses and travel to resume. His plan focused on the re-opening of state government, businesses, recreational activities, entertainment venues, and places of worship. The plan also allows for an increase in the number of persons who may participate in social gatherings in each of the stages.
