The Marion High School JROTC Drill Team recently traveled to Sheppardsville, Ky., to compete against 16 other schools in a regional competition recognized as one of the toughest. In previous years, the Giants were pleased to come away with just one placement. But this year they showed up ready to compete, and they came home with more trophies for top placements than ever before.

“I am very pleased with how we performed,” said retired Command Sgt. Maj. Jon Smith, Army JROTC instructor at MHS. “We brought home more hardware than in all our previous times competing here combined!”

Four Marion High School students earned the highest regional honors for their artwork submitted to the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, and their works will continue on to national-level competition. Two other students were also recognized for their outstanding work.

Jade Wood, MHS senior, earned three Gold Keys for her painting “Connection”, and two digital art works titled “Friendship” and “Transition”. She also earned a Silver Key for her digital art work “Misguided Ghosts”.

As part of a leadership class, 15 JROTC cadets from Marion High School recently traveled to Gettysburg Battlefield National Park where they had the opportunity to undertake a military-style staff ride, a learning experience rarely available to the average high school student. They then traveled on to Washington, D.C., where their experiences included a White House tour and more.

Nearly three dozen current Marion High School students and members of the MHS Class of 2019 have been recognized by the College Board for their cumulative excellent performance on multiple Advanced Placement tests in the 2018-19 school year or earlier in their high school career.

The Marion High School JROTC Precision Air Rifle Marksmanship Team continues to excel and rack up accolades, and they learned over the winter break that they have qualified again for the U.S. Army JROTC National Championship for the fifth year in a row.

Marion High School art teacher Tashema Davis was recently featured on arts IN focus, a show produced and aired weekly by Fort Wayne's PBS station.

Marion High School junior Soren Bruehler has been selected to perform in the Indiana Music Education Association’s All-State Honor Concert Band. 

It is the third honor band the MHS trombone player has been selected to this year.

Student Senate invites you to the 2020 Snow Ball!

This semi-formal dance, sponsored by Student Senate and Gorman & Bunch Orthodontics, is set for 8:30 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Marion Elks Club, 1100 E. Bond Ave.

Tickets are $10 for an individual, $15 for a couple. You can purchase tickets at lunch in the MHS cafeteria starting Monday, Jan. 13. 

PLEASE NOTE: If you want to bring a guest from another school, you must pick up a form to fill out. Forms will be available where tickets are being sold during lunch in the cafeteria.

The Marion High School JROTC program now has a team bus to travel to state, regional, and national competitions, thanks to the generous donations of community members and others. 

The bus, proudly painted in Marion purple is a new source of pride for the cadets and their impressive Army JROTC program at the high school and reflects the Giant cooperation between the school corporation, the MHS JROTC Department, and many individuals and community organizations.
