Do you love movies? Do you love music? Then the Marion High School band has a special treat for you this weekend!

Come out for a “Night at the Movies”, a concert featuring songs from movie soundtracks that we all know and love. The show starts at 7 p.m. Friday, May 10, in the Walton Performing Arts Center at MHS, 750 W. 26th St.

Also included in the concert will be a presentation of the All-City Art Show awards, honoring student artists for excellent work.

It was well known around the Midwestern JROTC Drill community that DJ Smith from Marion High School was a force to be reckoned with. He earned first place finishes in all five of the regional competitions he entered this year. But stepping up to compete at the National Championship on May 4 in Daytona, Fla., was a dream of his. With big dreams, come big rewards: Cadet Smith is now the National JROTC Drill Champion!

The Marion High School JROTC Raider Team lived up to the National Championship title they earned earlier this academic year by concluding the year with an undefeated season against 83 other teams.

The Marion High School summer session gives students the chance to recover credits needed to graduate, but it also allows students to get ahead on core classes and gain flexibility in their schedule moving forward.

Summer session classes include the core classes of Algebra I and English 10 (which will feature traditional in-class instruction), as well as virtual learning opportunities for any course required for graduation. They are open to all incoming 9th- through 12th-graders.

The Marion High School Green Society and environmental science classes spent a few weeks creating bracelets from recycled pop and water bottles collected at the school, to be used at the Earth Day Celebration at Matter Park on Tuesday.

Visitors to the MHS booth could paint the plastic bracelets to wear, or could also make seed starter necklaces, with soil and flower seeds made into a beaded necklace to wear and to watch grow.

Last week, Marion High School’s Academic Giants Interdisciplinary Super Bowl Team earned one of the top five scores in the state in regional competition, propelling them on to the state competition. 

The Giants competed with 58 other schools at regional competitions around the state on Tuesday for the right to advance to the state competition. The top five teams in each subject advance.
