Dozens of Marion Community Schools students competed recently in the annual ISSMA Solo and Ensemble vocal and instrumental competitions, and many brought home top ratings for their performances.

At Marion High School, 14 students competed with Group I pieces – the most difficult – at the regional vocal competition. Six of them earned Gold ratings and will continue on to state-level competition later this month.

Still looking for that special treat for Valentine’s Day? Marion High School musicians are offering a sweet opportunity for you and your sweetheart: a dessert theater, complete with musical performances.

This special event will feature performances by the MHS Innovations show choir and Sweet Adelines girls’ chorus. Choir members will also be waiting tables, serving food and interacting with the audience. Various desserts will be offered, along with hot and cold drinks.

Marion High School’s chapter of the national math honor society Mu Alpha Theta’s “Theta Potata” fundraiser drew community members to the school cafeteria for a meal of loaded baked potatoes, chips, drinks and dessert.

Two Marion High School seniors earned high honors for their artwork at a competition in Fort Wayne, and their works will continue on to national-level competition.

Thao Nguyen, a senior at MHS, earned Gold Key awards for two of her pieces submitted to the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art: drawings titled “Good Shoes Take You To Good Places” and “Pressure”.

The MHS Student Senate's Pennies for Patients donation drive is now underway!

Donation boxes are located in classrooms. Collections will be taken during 4th period.

If donations total more than $500, the top two classes earning the most money will be honored, the class collecting the most money will receive a Domino's Pizza party!  

The donation drive runs through Friday, Feb. 21. (Last year, the Senate Pennies for Patients drive raised $548. Let's beat that total and bring in $600 or more!)

Five Marion High School seniors got a boost to their post-high school education plans Sunday as they were awarded $7,000 in scholarships (out of $8,500 total awarded) during the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Celebration.

The scholarships, which have been given by the Marion Baptist Ministerial Alliance for more than 20 years, are awarded to area seniors who are active in the alliance’s churches and who are excelling academically. This year’s winners and their awards are:
