Spanish Honor Society (Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica)

Spanish Honor Society is a fantastico opportunity for students to be a part of.

Mrs. Newsome is the sponsor of this group and one of MHS's Spanish teachers.

Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is a national honor society. La Sociedad helps recognize students who have a high achievement in the Spanish language, and helps encourage them to continue their interest in it.

MHS has long had a strong Spanish program, and we intend to keep the tradition going! Many members of La Sociedad have continued their Spanish studies in college, and some have gone on to a related career.

Activities include a community service project, an annual induction ceremony, and field trips, and there are also scholarship opportunities are also available for those who join! There is also a monthly meeting in Room 2-40; members are informed in advance each month about them.

Who can join: Students must meet the following requirements:

  • Have and maintain an average of 85% or 3.0 GPA or better (in Spanish courses and overall)
  • Be enrolled in Level III Spanish
  • Demonstrate the qualities of character, leadership, and service
  • Must never have failed a class due to attendance, and may not have any disciplinary referrals from the current or previous year.

How to join: For more information, contact Giselle Saathoff at MHS, or email her at gsaathoff@marion.k12.in.us.
