There will be no classes at Marion Community Schools from Dec. 23 through Jan. 3 at Marion Community Schools. All individual school offices will be closed during this time as well.

The Marion Community Schools district offices will be closed for the holiday next Monday through Wednesday, Dec. 23 through 25.

Marion High School JROTC Cadet Levi Hofmann added another title to his growing list of achievements as an air-rifle marksman. Earlier this month, he and his teammates faced off against the best shooters from Indiana JROTC programs in Indianapolis at the JROTC State Rifle Marksmanship Championship. Hofmann turned in the second highest individual score to claim the Runner-Up State Champion title. Hofmann helped his Marion High teammates to finish third place overall as a team.

Marion High School / Marion Regional Career Center students collected many top awards at last weekend’s Business Professionals of America Regional Leadership Contest and will advance to the state level.

In fact, the Giants swept the top three places in one subject competition, Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications, with Lucia Persinger, an MHS junior, earning first place, senior Cooper Spencer in second, and sophomore Brandie Jo Moneer in third. The top five finishers in each subject go on to compete at the state level competition.

The regular meeting of the Marion Community Schools Board of School Trustees that was set for Dec. 10, 2019, has been canceled.

The next meeting will be on Dec. 17.

This holiday season, as carols tell of a special star that shone long ago, Marion High School’s state-of-the-art planetarium will put on a special show that explores the wonders of the night sky. 

The public is invited to MHS for “Seasonal Stargazing: Winter and Season of Lights”. Showings will be as follows:

Students from Marion Regional Career Center’s award-winning Cybersecurity and Information Technology Academy recently placed in the top five in a cybersecurity competition at Purdue University.

Four MRCC students, Hunter Butz, Tyler Hunter, Robert Smith, and Jack White, traveled to Purdue’s West Lafayette campus for the cybersecurity encounters workshop and challenge. During the workshop students learned different aspects of cybersecurity, including virtualization, web vulnerability challenges, forensics, and they participated in different cybersecurity challenges.

The Marion High School JROTC Raider Team traveled to Molena, Ga, earlier this month to face off against the best teams from across the country at the All-Army JROTC Raider National Championship. There they sought to retain their title as the National Champions in the small school category. At the end of a grueling day of competition, the Giants fell short of the title because of a tie-breaker in the scoring, thus becoming the Runner-Up National Champions.
