Tackling challenging academic material sometimes pays off in intangible ways, such as improved critical thinking skills and better preparation for college-level workloads. But for several Marion High School students, the reward was literal: a total of $5,900 cash in hand from the AP-TIP IN program was distributed recently.

A prominent structure at a high-traffic entry point into the city has a new owner, bringing new possibilities.

At Tuesday night’s meeting, the Marion Community Schools Board of School Trustees approved the sale of the former Tucker Vocational School property, at the corner of Ind. 18 East and Pennsylvania Street, to Indiana Wesleyan University.

Calling all artists!

Marion Community Schools is seeking artwork for its annual holiday cards. This competition is open to all Marion Community Schools students (including Marion Regional Career Center). Winning artists receive a $75 Walmart gift card!

FYI for our families on a local event coming up this weekend, put on by some great organizations aimed at making sure local families have what they need!


 

The Thriving Families Festival is set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Five Points Mall. It's free, and there will be food, fun, and information about local resources, along with freebies and a chance to win prizes!

Marion Community Schools Board of School Trustees invites letters of interest from individuals to serve on the Marion Public Library Board of Trustees. The appointment is from Jan. 1, 2019, to Dec. 31, 2022.

Eligibility requirements:
  • Reside in the city of Marion.
  • Reside in city of Marion for at least two years immediately preceding the appointment to the Library Board.
  • Attend meetings on the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at Marion Public Library. (Members serve without pay.)
