On Nov. 19, educators from throughout the state of Indiana will be attending Red for Public Ed Action Day, a rally at the Indiana Statehouse. This rally is meant to communicate to our legislators the serious need for more financial and other support for public education and the children we serve. Public education has an important mission, which is to serve all the children of all the people. Our state is not adequately supporting this mission.
Understanding how important it is for our community, state, and country to support public education, Marion Community Schools has decided to cancel classes on Nov. 19 in support of the Red for Public Ed rally at the Indiana Statehouse. This will be considered a cancellation, and one day will be added to the end of the school year. That means the final student day is now set for May 21.
Marion Community Schools knows that many of our families depend on meals provided to students at school. A breakfast bar is being sent home with students on Monday, and lunch will be available for any MCS student at Marion High School on Tuesday, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
All after-school activities will go on as planned that day, unless otherwise communicated by team coaches or club sponsors.
Community support of this effort is welcome, and if you wish to attend the rally to show your support of public education and Marion Community Schools, you can find more information about the rally at www.ista-in.org/invest-in-
