Dear Riverview Elementary family:
I am so excited and honored to start another year as the Principal at Riverview Elementary School. I look forward to working with our students, families, and educators to make this the best school year yet. I am proud to be part of the Giant Family and to raise my own kids in our community that is full of opportunities within Marion Community Schools. Riverview Elementary School is a place where all students are encouraged to strive for excellence academically, socially, and emotionally in a safe and supportive atmosphere. Our goal is to work in partnership with our parents and community to create an environment where students are empowered to discover their strengths and achieve their maximum potential. Opportunities are available for enrichment, intervention, and remediation as necessary. We set high expectations for all students. Our entire school community shares the belief that all children can and will learn.
I would like to welcome our new Assistant Principal Scott Wessel. Mr. Wessel has been in education for 26 years. He graduated from Ball State University in 1995 with his Bachelor of Science in English Education. He has a Master’s in Education from BSU, and an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Indiana Wesleyan University. He taught in Muncie Community Schools for seven years before moving to administration in Tipton Community Schools, where he worked for 19 years. He and his wife, Alison, have two grown children, Lily and Austin. In his free time, he enjoys coaching baseball and spending time with his family. “I am looking forward to working with the great students and staff at Riverview Elementary School,” he said, “to help students be the best versions of themselves.”
Please plan to attend our Back to School Open House on Aug. 8. Doors will be open from 5 to 6:30 p.m. This is an opportunity for you and your student to meet our teachers, and for you to complete your registration if you have not done so. You will also get important information about Title 1 services for all students and more, pick up your car tags if needed, pay your technology fee ($20), and pay your book fee or apply for assistance.
If you would like to simplify your experience at our Back to School Night, you can complete the following ahead of time through your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account:
- If you haven’t already done so, complete your student’s registration for the 2022-23 school year (instructions can be found in the Enrollment section of marion.k12.in.us)
- Apply online for textbook fee assistance (in your Parent Portal, select “More” from the list on the left, then select “Meals” to access the application)
We have an exciting new opportunity this year at Riverview: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) class for all of our students!
We are also pleased to inform you that breakfast and lunch will continue to be free for all Marion students.
The first day of school for grades K-4 is Wednesday, Aug. 10. Classes at Riverview start at 7:45 a.m. Students can be dropped off starting at 7:20 a.m.
Kindergarten will start late on the first three days (Aug. 10, 11, 12), at 8 a.m. After that, kindergarten will start at 7:45 a.m. along with the rest of our classes.
All students will get out early the first three days (Aug. 10, 11, 12). Dismissal on those days will be at 1:15 p.m. After that, all K-4 students will be dismissed at 2:15 p.m.
Parental involvement in a child’s education is crucial to their achievement, attitude, self-esteem, maturity, and responsibility. I urge you to take part as much as possible in the life of our school. We do have a PTO that you may want to join!
Please feel free to contact the school office or your child’s teacher with any questions or needs throughout the school year.
Once again, welcome back! Let’s make this another great year in the Giant Nation.
Principal Ashlee Dixon
