Marion Community Schools was informed Wednesday, Dec. 16, that a student who was last at Frances Slocum Elementary School on Tuesday, Dec. 15, has been diagnosed as COVID-19 positive.
At the elementary level, with the difficulty of enforcing consistent social distancing, Marion Community Schools utilizes cohorting (keeping groups of students together and avoiding cross contact as much as possible). Because of this, our plans have included quarantining entire classrooms in the event of a positive COVID diagnosis.
Marion Community Schools was informed Monday, Dec. 7, that a staffer who was last at Frances Slocum Elementary School on Thursday, Dec. 3, has been diagnosed as COVID-19 positive.
In connection with this positive case, 8 students were determined to be school related close contacts and have been informed and instructed to quarantine.

On Nov. 24, the Marion Community Schools Board of School Trustees approved the continuation of e-learning Fridays through the rest of the 2020-21 school year calendar, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The board had previously approved e-learning Fridays for the first semester.
Marion Community Schools was informed Sunday, Nov. 22, that a staffer who was last at Frances Slocum Elementary School on Thursday, Nov. 19, has been diagnosed as COVID-19 positive. In connection with this positive case, there were determined to be no school related close contacts, so no additional quarantines were needed.
Marion Community Schools was informed Thursday, Nov. 19, that a student who was last at McCulloch Junior High School on Thursday, Nov. 19, has been diagnosed as COVID-19 positive.
In connection with this positive case, 17 other students and 3 staffers were determined to be school related close contacts and have been informed and instructed to quarantine.
Marion Community Schools is adding two e-learning days to its calendar as we shift into the winter and holiday season. There will be no onsite classes on Monday, Nov. 23, and Tuesday, Nov. 24. (Thanksgiving break begins Wednesday, Nov. 25.)

11/25/20 UPDATE: The Indiana Department of Health has classified Grant County in the red category, meaning there is an active and widespread outbreak of COVID-19 in our community.
The Grant County Health Department has asked that schools continue to restrict spectator attendance at school activities to parents and guardians only, up to two per student participant. No school events will be open to the public at this time.
Many events have been postponed or canceled due to quarantines here or at other participating schools.
