Grant County Family YMCA

(located at 123 Sutter Way - open to anyone, not exclusively MCS students) 

  • Computer CampFor ages 11-14; learn all things computer tech from a computer expert out of California. 9 a.m. to noon July 25-29 at the YMCA; fees apply. Click here for more information
     

Indiana Wesleyan University

(located at 4201 S. Washington St. - open to anyone, not exclusively MCS students)

  • Summer Writing Camp: For incoming 9th- through 12th-graders, along with members of the Class of 2022; fees apply. Residential week-long camp June 19-24 that includes various creative writing workshop experiences, along with interaction with other Wildcat Summer Academy camps on IWU campus.   • Summer Nursing Camp: For incoming 9th- through 12th-graders, along with members of the Class of 2022; fees apply. Residential week-long camp June 19-24 that includes CPR certification and various other hands-on nursing-related experiences, along with interaction with other Wildcat Summer Academy camps on IWU campus.   • Summer Computer Science Camp: Learning Python through game development. For incoming 9th- through 12th-graders, along with members of the Class of 2022; fees apply. Marion Public Library

(located at 600 S. Washington St. - open to anyone, not exclusively MCS students)

  • Book Tasting: Come and sample books to put on your summer reading list!
  • Summer Reading Program: "Oceans of Possibilities" - Start logging your reading June 1! Download the Reader Zone app, create an account or log in to an existing one, enter the Marion Public Library Code 188c3, join a reading group, and start logging! 
     
  • Preschool story time: 10:30 a.m. every Friday at the Library
     
  • Read to the Dogs: 5:30 p.m. May 31 at the Library
     
  • STEAM Stations: Various times and dates. Science experiments for preschool through sixth grade. Registration required. Click here to find the registration form for the next event.
     
  • Kids Sign Language Class: Presented by Linda Taylor from Services for the Visually and Hearing Impaired. 10 a.m. June 20-23. Registration opens on June 1; click here.
     
  • Hedgehog Hannah: Come see live animals 5 p.m. July 14 at the Matter Park Bandshell
     

The Training Center

(located at 2011 W. 10th St. - open to anyone, not exclusively MCS students)

  • Summer Blast: June 13 through July 21, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; breakfast and lunch included; project based learning, STEM, research, cooking, crafts, and more! Open to students who were in kindergarten through grade six in the 2021-22 school year; limited spots available. Family Resource Center

(located at 1240 S. Adams St. - open to anyone, not exclusively MCS students)

  • The Family Resource Center has many informational sessions and services for parents/guardians and families. For current information, click here to visit their website.

Arts / Music / Entertainment

Marion High School

  • The Marching Giants practice throughout the summer. Contact Band Director Josh Huff, jhuff@marion.k12.in.us, with questions. They will also be competing on the summer circuit; we will provide dates when they are available.
     

Marion Community School of the Arts

(located at 305 S. Washington St. - open to anyone, not exclusively MCS students)

Grant County Family YMCA

(located at 123 Sutter Way - open to anyone, not exclusively MCS students)

Indiana Wesleyan University

  • Summer Art Camp: For incoming 9th- through 12th-graders, along with members of the Class of 2022; fees apply. Marion Public Library

(located at 600 S. Washington St. - open to anyone, not exclusively MCS students; subject to change, verify current events here) 

  • Family movie: 1 p.m. on first Saturdays and third Thursdays at the Library
     
  • Teen Takeover: Open to teens, 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Fridays at the Library. Hang out, unwind, play video games, board games, enjoy a snack.
     
  • Anime Club: Open to grades 7-12, 5 p.m. third Fridays at the Library. Enjoy anime and snacks with friends.
     
  • Lego Club: Open to ages 4 and up, 1 p.m. first Saturday of the month at the Library. Registration is required. Click here to find the registration form for the next event. 
     
  • Magician Daniel Lusk: 6 p.m. June 9 at the Library
     
  • Music with Mrs. Kate: 2 p.m. June 14 at the Matter Park Bandshell (rain location is Library)

Athletics / Recreation / Fun

Marion High School

The following MHS activities are open to all incoming 9th- through 12th-graders at MHS unless otherwise noted.

Marion Swim Club

Located at the Marion High School pool. Open to all in grades 2 through 12.

  • The Marion Swim Club will will run from May 31 through July 16, Monday through Thursday; for second through sixth grades, 9 to 10 a.m.; for seventh grade through Class of 2022, 10 to 11 a.m.; $55 per swimmer. Sign-up will be on the first day (May 31); parents/guardians should plan to be there to complete forms at that time.
     

Grant County Family YMCA

(located at 123 Sutter Way - open to anyone, not exclusively MCS students) 

  • Summer Day CampFees apply. Camp runs from June 6 through Aug. 5, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (with childcare available starting at 6:30 a.m. and through 6 p.m. for additional fees). Open to 3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds who have completed a year of public preschool in Grant County or kindergarten, along with all kids 6 to 12 years old. Registration deadline is June 1, but space is limited, so contact the YMCA as soon as possible to sign up.   • Marion Milers - free summer fun runs: For kids ages 2 to 18. Location is 1520 W. Chapel Pike, Marion. Click to pre-register online, or arrive at least 15 minutes early to register onsite. Races start at 6:15 on June 21, June 28, July 19, and July 26. The fun runs are for kids and teens at any fitness level! Mini-milers: ages 2-4 will run 100 meters; ages 5-6, 200 meters; ages 7-9, 400 meters. Mid-milers: ages 10-13 will run 800 meters. Mega-milers: ages 14-18 will run 1 mile. Every miler will receive a popsicle and a ribbon for finishing a race. Any miler who completes at least three of the four races will earn a Marion Milers T-shirt.   • Basketball Camp: For ages 5-12; learn basketball fundamentals and meet new friends! 6 to 7:30 p.m. June 27 through July 1 at the YMCA; fees apply. Click here for more information

  • Beginner Golf Camp: For ages 5-10; learn the fundamentals of golf and meet new friends! 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. July 18-20 at Arbor Trace Golf Course; fees apply. Click here for more information.
     
  • Intermediate Golf Camp: For ages 11-18; practice the fundamentals and skills of golf and meet new friends! 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. July 18-20 at Arbor Trace Golf Course; fees apply. Click here for more information.
     

Indiana Wesleyan University

  • Urban Farming - From Field to Fork: For incoming 9th- through 12th-graders, along with members of the Class of 2022; fees apply. Residential week-long camp June 19-24 that includes various hands-on experiences on a two-acre diversified urban farm, along with interaction with other Wildcat Summer Academy camps on IWU campus.   • Marion High School students: See Ms. Gay if you would like to sign up for a student leadership camp at Manchester University from June 26 through July 2. Fees apply. ​​Team captains, club presidents, or just those who would like leadership experience, this could be for you!
