Summer 2022 P-EBT

According to the Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA), Summer 2022 P-EBT funds began to rollout on July 18, 2022. In the past, it has taken several days or even weeks for the rollout to be completed. 

All MCS students who were enrolled in grades K-12 at the end of the 2021-22 school year should be receiving these funds. 

8/25 UPDATE: We are hearing that the amended rollout (based on the corrected data collections) has begun. If you did not previously receive funds, watch for deposits onto your card(s) soon.

If you have not received your payment(s) by Sept. 1, feel free to call our Food Service Department at 765-662-2546 ext. 8025 and we will look into it.

Please note: If you have requested a new card, FSSA has indicated it is an eight-week turnaround from request to delivery of a new card. Funds will not be deposited onto old cards if you have requested new ones.


7/28 UPDATE: Marion Community Schools is working with FSSA to correct transfer issues in the automated data collection process. It is unclear what caused these issues, but we are in contact with FSSA to get this addressed.

Unfortunately, this means some payments will be delayed, and we do not have an updated timeline from FSSA yet.

FSSA asks that you do NOT request replacement cards unless you are truly missing your card. A re-issued card will not speed up payments. (In fact, we suggest keeping ALL cards while this gets sorted out, so that you do not experience a further delay once corrective payments are issued.)

We understand how important this P-EBT benefit is, and we know this news may be difficult to hear. We are working closely with FSSA to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.


What is P-EBT?

P-EBT stands for Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer Program.

The P-EBT benefit gives families with school aged children (grades K-12 in 2021-22 school year) an EBT card to purchase food, an extension of the the National School Lunch Program.

Because Marion Community Schools is a Community Eligibility district through the USDA's National School Lunch Program, EVERY student at MCS is eligible for free school meals during the school year, with no application needed. 

 

Do I have to apply?

There is no application process to receive P-EBT. 

 

How will I receive these funds?

If you have previously received a P-EBT card, the Summer P-EBT benefit will be loaded to that card for each eligible child.

If you have received more than one card previously, please check each card to see if you have received the funds. 

For students who have not previously received any type of P-EBT, a new P-EBT card will be issued. You will receive this card in the mail to the address the school had on file for you.

Who can use these benefits?

These benefits are for your family and are non-transferable, but the student whose name is on the card does not need to be present when you make eligible purchases with the card. No ID is required to be able to use this card.

 

What can I buy with P-EBT funds?

P-EBT benefits have the same uses and restrictions as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. The benefits can be used only for eligible food purchases. For more information click here: https://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/eligiblefood-items.

P-EBT funds expire after 274 days from the issuance date.
