News Blog Category - News Marion Community Schools is thrilled to announce that the Marion High School band program is a recipient of a GRAMMY Signature Schools Community Award, along with a grant from the GRAMMY Foundation and the Hot Topic Foundation!
The GRAMMY Foundation facilitates grants, in cooperation with other organizations, to support outstanding efforts in high school music education, and to award deserving high school music programs with critically needed funding in selected communities around the country.

The GRAMMY Foundation expressed support and gratitude to the MHS band program for its role in “shaping the future of music”, and in “bringing the power and joy of music to the next generation.”

Through the GRAMMY in the Schools program, the GRAMMY Foundation aims to draw public attention to the critical importance of maintaining music education as a core element of school curricula. At Marion Community Schools we believe that music education is an essential opportunity that all students should have available. Grants and community support enable us to continue to improve opportunities for young musicians in our community. We are grateful to be the recipient of this $2,000 grant.

Even in a time of reduced spending, Marion Community Schools has increased its commitment to fine arts. Marion High School has the only competitive marching band program in the county, McCulloch Junior High School is the only school in the state to have earned the JME Total Department All Music Award from the Indiana State School Music Association two years in a row, and we have added staff at Justice Intermediate to provide more opportunities to the young musicians there. We believe in the power of arts education to change lives. Creative solutions and partnerships are essential to provide for all the needs that come with a growing music education program.

If you would like to support the MHS band program, there are several ways to do so, through a partnership with the Marion High School Alumni Association:
  • You can give an earmarked donation to the Marion High School Alumni Association, which will then pass it along to the band program. MHSAA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, which means your donation is tax-deductible when allowed by applicable laws. You can give online here, or you can email if you would like to make other arrangements, or for more information.
  • You can take a look at our Wish List and provide a donation directly to a specific need. These donations are also funneled through MHSAA, so they may be tax deductible. Click here for more information.
  • You can give to the Giant Arts Endowment at the Community Foundation of Grant County, which will provide funding for arts education throughout Marion Community Schools for years to come. You can give online here.
