C-T: Head Start hosts literacy fair

Marion resident Chastity Yeakle was happy to see her 4-year-old daughter Hailey bring reading to life Friday.

When the fun was over at the literacy fair, hosted by Marion Community Schools’ Head Start program, Hailey and 167 classmates received four children’s books to take home and continue to increase their love of reading.

Future fairs, however, will lack books for students to keep after federal sequester cuts take effect May 1.

“It promotes literacy with the family that they can take those home,” said Head Start Coordinator Heather Pratt. “I’m sad to see that go.”
