25 Marion students chosen for regional honor bands

Twenty-five Marion Community Schools band students have been selected for regional honor ensembles this fall. And Marion Community Schools is proud to host two of these honor ensembles right here in Marion this month!

 

IBA All-Region Honor Band

First up will be the Indiana Bandmasters Association All-Region Honor Band, which features select students from around the region in grades seven through nine. After weeks of practice on their own, on Nov. 15 the young musicians will gather to rehearse together for the first time. Then, on Sunday, Nov. 16, they will present a public performance at 4 p.m. on the main stage at the Walton Performing Arts Center at Marion High School, 750 W. 26th St.

McCulloch Junior High School and Marion High School students who were selected for this ensemble are:

  • Damien Anderson, grade 8
  • Samuel Davies, grade 8
  • Cymaura Dorsey, grade 9
  • Hannah Hines, grade 9
  • Peter Lomagistro, grade 9
  • Annemarie Sanchez, grade 7
  • Nathaneil Slinkard, grade 8
  • Justice Sweat, grade 9
  • Annibelle Ward, grade 8
  • Micah Wayman, grade 8

 

IJEA All-District Jazz Honor Band

Also on the weekend of Nov. 15 and 16, several Marion students will travel to Pendleton to play with the Indiana Jazz Educators Association All-District Jazz Honor Band, which features select students from around the area in grades nine through 12. They will gather to rehearse together on Nov. 15, then offer a public performance at 4 p.m. Pendleton Heights High School, under the direction of Matt Pivec, Director of Jazz Studies at Butler University.

Marion High School students who were selected for this ensemble are:

  • Gavin Johnson, grade 11
  • Justin Peters, grade 12
  • Jehren Smithley, grade 12
  • Manuel Trejo, grade 12

 

IBA All-District Honor Band

Next will be the IBA All-District Honor Band, which features select students from around the region in grades nine through 12. They will gather to rehearse together on Nov. 22, then offer a public performance at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, on the main stage at the Walton.

  • Elaina Dunham, grade 10
  • Mackenzie Herring, grade 10
  • Hannah Huff, grade 10

  • Justin Peters, grade 12
  • Hannah Smith, grade 12
  • Jehren Smithley, grade 12
  • Manuel Trejo, grade 12

These honor bands offer students a great opportunity, and will give them a chance to learn and grow as musicians. We hope you will consider joining us to support them and enjoy their performance.
