Ten Marion Community Schools singers have been selected to perform in prestigious all-state honor ensembles at the Indiana Music Education Association’s upcoming annual conference.
At McCulloch Junior High, the following eighth-graders were selected to participate in the IMEA All State Middle School Honor Choir:
- Miles Contreras
- Antonio Cruz
- Myla Dunston
- Cecilia Hancock
- Elisabella Ramirez
- Micah Wayman
At Justice Intermediate School, the following students were selected to participate in the IMEA All State Elementary School Honor Choir:
- Naomi Bell, fifth grade
- Brooklyn Boogar, sixth grade
- Addison Phillips, sixth grade
- Trinity Vugteveen, sixth grade
These honor ensembles are a great opportunity and give students a chance to learn and grow as musicians. To be selected for this honor, students are nominated by their choir director and then submit audition materials; all nominations are then evaluated based on several criteria to select members of these talented groups from across the state. Selected musicians have been notified and were tasked with practicing the musical selections in preparation for the upcoming performances.
On Jan. 15, honor ensemble members from around the state will gather to rehearse together for the first time, with a guest clinician. Then, on Jan. 16, they will perform together in Fort Wayne during IMEA’s annual conference.
The MJH and JIS students join Marion High School junior Clara Davies, whose selection to the Indiana Choral Directors Association’s All-State Honor Choir was announced earlier. That choir will also perform at IMEA’s annual conference.
Marion’s outstanding representation during this music-filled weekend is a testament to the hard work and dedication our students display every day in the classroom, and to the excellence, skill, and professionalism that our music educators bring to their work all year round.
