Non-resident student transfers

Marion Community Schools will accept non-resident student transfers for the 2024-25 school year.

If your student is not a resident of the Marion Community Schools district but you wish to enroll him or her in Marion Community Schools, you can pick up an application year-round at the District Offices at Marion High School, 750 W. 26th St., or at any of the district’s schools during the school year. (Click here for school addresses.) Please note, however, that all applications must be returned in person or by mail to the District Offices, not the school building offices.

Marion Community Schools has also established capacities for non-resident transfers for the 2024-25 school year as follows:

  • Grades K-4: 65 students
  • Grades 5-6: 50 students
  • Grades 7-8: 50 students
  • Grades 9-12: 200 students

If by Wednesday, July 31, 2024, non-resident transfer applications exceed those capacities at any level, a lottery will be scheduled to randomly choose which applicants will be accepted, in accordance with IC 20-26-11-32.

Marion Community Schools will continue to accept non-resident student transfers throughout the school year or until capacities are met.

Non-resident student transfers may be denied for students who have been suspended or expelled during the 12 months preceding the student’s request for: 1) 10 or more school days; 2) for a violation under IC 20-33-8-16; 3) for causing a physical injury to a student, a school employee, or a visitor to the school; or 4) a violation of a school corporation’s drug or alcohol rules.

These procedures do not apply to any non-resident student who attended Marion Community Schools during the 2023-24 school year. All non-resident students who attended MCS in the 2023-24 school year are grandfathered in as enrollees and do not have to re-apply (though they do have to register for the upcoming school year; for registration information, click here).

These procedures also do not apply to any non-resident students who are members of a household in which any other member of the household is already enrolled as a student at Marion Community Schools, or if the non-resident student has a parent who is an employee of the school corporation. MCS will not deny enrollment for such students, regardless of date of application or school capacity.
